The Brief
The client’s key goal was to give their guests a completely different experience from last year’s office holiday party – a glamorous 1950’s shindig at the Sky Garden.
It was of utmost importance that the event again be sophisticated and stylish, but also unique…. and of course, it had to top last year’s party!
The decision was made, with our guidance and advice, to choose the theme “POP ART”, based in the fantastic warehouse venue in Canada Water, Hawkers House.
As a team, we loved this rustic, industrial space with its high ceilings and spacious layout. It provided a wonderfully versatile, down-to-earth backdrop, in which the theme of Pop Art – with all its colours and exuberance – could really come to life.
What We Did
The client themselves are a modern, technological, forward-thinking company. As such they wanted to propel the traditional theme of Pop Art into the 21st Century, taking a creative approach to a theme done many times before. We worked with them to create a contemporary colour scheme of blues, greens and yellows alongside elegant whites and striking accent colours. On arrival, an eccentric artist would lead guests into the initial space for the reception, designed as THE ARTIST’S STUDIO. In the studio guests watched speed artists creating fantastic works of pop art, as music played from a live, upbeat urban soul band.
The guests could then become works of art as our makeup artists transformed them into pop characters – before entering the infinity photo booth to be positioned by our quirky photographer for their personal shoot. As the reception came to a head and the speeches took place, our speed artists ripped apart their canvases to reveal the client’s logo, painted and cleverly hidden within their works of art. The doors to the main space were then swung open and guests were welcomed by our troupe of pop art characters into THE ART GALLERY. The DJ hit the decks alongside a live percussionist as our characters posed as live art onstage.
Highlights
Whilst retaining the element of good old-fashioned fun, that the Pop Art theme embodies, we created spaces within the space, building ‘exhibitions’ which translated into unique activities for the guests.
The combination of white, modern props and furniture, with bright splashes of paint, topped off with stunning event lighting was extremely effective.
We designed a David Hockney ball pool, swimming pool which was a massive success. Guests enjoyed a cocktail while ‘swimming’ in the pool.
We ensured that everything we built for the event was deliberate and stylised. The event looked absolutely fantastic and we won the EVCOM design award for best celebration.
We design an interactive Rainbow Stairs activity that was hugely popular. Guests put on headphone while climbing the stairs and listening to a dubstep version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.
