The Brief
Our client had secured an amazing iconic music and arts venue for this event – The Roundhouse in Camden. The space is immense, with tall industrial pillars defying a large, circular double layered main space. As such our event design needed to be highly impactful with our client wanting a lot of coverage, creating an intriguing event journey from point of entry through to a reveal of the dance floor.
Our main brief was to create a wow factor based on a tropical jungle theme, but with a cool futuristic edge touching on dystopian – which we have to say we loved! The client is a modern, technology company, so as such we were looking at designing for a majority young, mixed gender audience. However our client was also keen to ensure there were mixed environments with the design of the space, to cater to different personalities and tastes.
What We Did
We began the event with an eye catching entrance display of tropical trees framing a VIP gold carpet, branded with the event name. Guests were then led up a staircase draped with jungle vines and themed messaging, and through a set of corridors, led by our gaggle of jungle nymphs onto the balcony for the arrival drinks reception.
Our concept was to design the balcony and main space in sections, for guests to discover throughout the evening. We created a number of areas; The Golden Oak, The Greenhouse, Do Not Enter VIP Zone, The Cascading Waterfall, Behind The Waterfall and a Jungle Chill Out.
What We Did
As guests gathered for the drinks reception our initial challenge was not to reveal the main space below. Our client did not want to curtain off the edge of the balcony, so our production team came up with the ingenious idea of creating a low layer of rolling misted smoke below, paired with dark atmospheric lighting, allowing for a grand reveal of the DJ and Dancefloor when the guests moved downstairs.
After the reveal our bespoke dance floor immediately became the centre point of the space, printed with a bespoke vinyl showcasing the event logo in luxurious black and gold. Directly behind the dance floor our DJ duo were positioned high on a cluster of large rocks, set between tall jungle palms in front of a cascading waterfall video shown on a large screen, provided by our AV team. A hidden walkthrough ’Behind the Waterfall’ was created to one side of the DJ, where guests would discover a bespoke bar serving a selection of waterfall themed cocktails.
What We Did
We then went the extra mile to deal with the fact that the client was not keen on guests needing to exit the main space and use back of house set of stairs to move between levels. As such, we worked with the venue to construct a large internal staircase linking the balcony to the ground level. We then dressed this massive construction in layers of camo mesh and foliage vines to create an incredible event decor element!
Mirrored bars were dotted around the space amongst stylish food stations and plush velvet furniture seating sections. Tall 4m palm trees were positioned and uplit in front of each of the venue pillars, with long vines of ivy and jungle foliage draped down over the edge of the circular balcony, encasing the main space.
What We Did
A three piece band kicked off the entertainment on the balcony, followed by the DJ trio who had guests on the dance floor for the rest of the evening.
Then to top it all off we built a 15m long industrial greenhouse, covered in neon EL wire and dressed with hanging plants and winding foliage. Our master alchemists (trained actors in geeky glasses and white lab coats) then entertained guests as they brought over smoky cocktails, delivering snippets of info on the herbs, spices and secret alcoholic recipes involved.
Highlights
We drove a vintage camo pickup trunk through the venue (under strict H&S!) to create a unique photo booth for guests to pose with, set in front of a rocky jungle landscaped backdrop.
DO NOT ENTER! Our one of a kind VIP zone, doubling up as a jungle speakeasy. Guests entered to discover the space decorated head to toe in bright white… then suddenly UV lights were switched on revealing secret themed messages painted across all of the walls and furniture!
Bespoke hair and makeup stations, designed for all genders to enjoy, using industrial furniture set within a tropical box set.
We created a fabulous 3m high tropical foliage wall with a large neon sign as an arrival photo opportunity for guests.
Our troupe of fabulous performers! A cleanup team in full hazard gear initiated the evening, weaving through the crowd ‘cleaning’ the guests. In the greenhouse our master alchemists entertained guests whilst our neon dystopian trio performed exciting secret sets on a small stage in the VIP speakeasy.
The incredible catering from our supplier Bubble, featuring industrial neon food stations, a rotating Susi carousel and bespoke rainforest themed cocktails.
