Virtual Easter Games
From Easter Witches to being doused in water, this colourful holiday has many brilliant traditions all over the world. Here in the UK, we have our Easter Egg Hunts of course, Hot Cross Buns and Maypole Dancing to usher in the Spring. In the States, the Easter Egg Roll at the White House is probably the best known Easter Event, but we have unearthed some fantastic traditions in other parts of the world worth a mention. Fantastic and funny!
Did you know that children in Finland dress as Witches and beg for chocolate eggs carrying willow twigs decorated with feathers? On Easter Sunday bonfires burn in Finland to ward of witches that fly on brooms. In Poland and Hungary water fights are the order of the day at Easter. Particularly boys dousing girls in water. This might be because water was considered to have a cleansing, healing and fertility inducing effect. If you have ever been to a Greek wedding you know about the tradition of breaking plates to ward off evil spirits. Well, in Corfu, on Holy Saturday, people throw pots, pans, and other earthenware often filled with water out of their windows, smashing them on the street. Some believe the throwing of the pots welcomes spring, symbolizing the new crops that will be gathered in the new pots.

How many of these traditions will play out in the streets this year is uncertain, but it would be a shame to not celebrate Easter, even if virtually.
Our on-line Easter Egg hunt is still ‘live’ and will get the kids happily running around, and virtual story-time in our virtual Easter Village promises to be magical.
Next year though, finger’s crossed, you might want to visit Haux, in France where they have a brilliant tradition involving huge amounts of delicious food, (of course!). Each year in the town’s square a gigantic omelette made from 15,000 eggs is served on Easter Monday. The story goes that Napoleon and his army travelling through the south of France stopped here and ate omelettes. Napoleon loved these so much he ordered the town’s people to make a massive omelette for his army the next day.

If you are looking for some seasonal fun head over to our virtual Easter Village for action stories and sing-a-longs, as we meet the 3 Little Pigs, the Tortoise and the Hare and many others. After story-time our Hop-a-long Dance party, AKA virtual kid’s Disco, is guaranteed to make you giggle and wiggle all day long.
When it time to get creative join us for a virtual craft workshop! Drawing, painting easter eggs and designing colourful top hats with bunny ears, in the Easter Bunny’s Art Class. The highlight of every Easter party is of course the Easter Egg Hunt. Even with the Easter Bunny on zoom, this year’s hunt can be a lot of fun. In advance of the party we will share a list of where to hide a number of sweets treats with parents. Then simply zoom to Easter Village for party games and guided treasure hunting fun.
